Pottery Sale and Raku Party, Sunday December 7!

For those who haven’t been, we’ll have local potters, abandoned name-your-price pots, plenty of holiday cheer and RAKU ornaments that you can paint and fire. There will also be a wheel that you can try and volunteers to help you throw. Grab a locally made tamale and a champurrado.

What’s Raku? It’s a method of glazing and firing pots, very quickly. In less than an hour you can have a finished glazed piece to take home. We’ll have a variety of ornaments (2D and 3D), trees, and more that you can choose to glaze, for $10-$15. Stick around for the whole process (maybe grab a bite) or we can finish it for you. The best part of Raku is that the pieces are removed from the kiln when they are red hot, then transferred to flammable material such as sawdust, which starts them on fire. They are promptly covered and the resulting smoke and reduction environment produces unexpected results.
