Summer Pottery Sale and Raku Party

August 10, the Second Sunday, we’ll be having a neighborhood pottery sale along with our friends The Hometown Wave. Come and browse both locations and the sidewalk in between. We’ll have tons of pots, a wheel for you to play, and a raku firing on the patio. Come paint an ornament or ring dish and then pull it out of the hot kiln for some ceramic magic. Kid friendly.

What’s Raku? It’s a method of glazing and firing pots, very quickly. Within an hour or so (depending on how hot the kiln is) you can have a finished glazed piece to take home. We’ll have a variety of ornaments, ring dishes, and incense holders you can choose to glaze, for $10-$20. Stick around to take your own piece from the kiln or we can do it for you. The best part of Raku is that the pieces are removed from the kiln when they are red hot, then transferred to flammable material such as sawdust, which starts them on fire. They are promptly covered and the resulting smoke and reduction environment produces unexpected results.
