Sunday! Come and browse all the pots and raku an ornament while you’re at it. We’ll also have early bird freebies and games. Kid friendly.
What’s Raku? It’s a method of glazing and firing pots, very quickly. Within an hour or less (depending on how hot the kiln is) you can have a finished glazed piece to take home. We’ll have a variety of ornaments you can choose to glaze, for $10. Stick around to take your own piece from the kiln or we can do it for you. The best part of Raku is that the ornaments are removed from the kiln when they are red hot, then transferred to flammable material such as sawdust, which starts them on fire. They are promptly covered and the resulting smoke and reduction environment makes them extra magical.

Raku! Finally! We love a pit fire, but the magic of Raku is like nothing else. We’ll have a couple workshops you can attend to prepare some items. Or if you’re interested in just the firing, you can sign up at the same link.
Somewhat related to Raku is the Mold Making workshop we’ve always wanted to host. We’ll show you how to make a plaster mold from an item of your choice and then you can use it to cast forms for the Raku fire.
Plaster molds are how many commercially produced ceramics are made. Once the mold is finished, you can pour in specially prepared clay slip and you will have an exact replica of your item. You can see more of the mold making process here. And the slip pouring here.
